The 27-year-old woman from the city of Salzburg, Austria, reportedly appeared at the first trial hearing in room 3-36 of the Magistrates Court in the city of Perth, Western Australia, on 10th March 2023.

She reportedly faces up to 25 years in prison after the police caught her with nearly one kilogramme of cocaine (2.2 lbs) in her system on Saturday, 11th February 2023.

The woman who was reportedly an amateur model and had recently visited a luxurious holiday resort in Zanzibar, Africa, arrived on a flight from Europe when Australian customs stopped her.

But having noticed that she was very nervous upon arrival at the airport, customs officers questioned her and then took her to be held securely at Royal Perth Hospital.

It then emerged that eight of the pellets had been reswallowed after the 27-year-old woman who lived on the island of Ibiza, Spain, had passed them on the journey.

Reports revealed that she passed 124 pellets containing nearly one kilogramme of cocaine (2.2 lbs) under medical supervision by 1.30pm on Monday, 13th February 2023.

She was then discharged from the hospital the same day, after scans confirmed that there were no more drugs in her system.

The drugs reportedly had a street value of around USD 500,000 (GBP 415,725), police claimed.

She was charged with one count of importing a marketable quantity of cocaine at the Perth Magistrates Court the following day, Tuesday, 14th February 2023.

She reportedly remained in custody ever since, but made an appearance at the court on Friday, 10th March 2023.

The woman faces up to 25 years in prison if found guilty.

Australian Federal Police (AFP) Commander Kate Ferry advocated against the transport of drugs in the digestive system, because of the serious health risks.

Ferry said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “Anyone trying to move drugs across borders concealed inside their bodies is not only risking a substantial jail term but potentially a fatal drug overdose or permanent damage to their internal organs.

“The AFP estimates the seizure of these three illicit imports has saved the community more than USD 1.75 million (GBP 1.45 million) in drug-related harm, including associated crime, healthcare and loss of productivity.

“The photographs of the seized pellets of drugs after they’ve been excreted should also highlight to drug users the disgusting reality of how these illicit substances are transported across the world.”
